Celebrating Independence, Promoting Wellness, and Calling for Accountability
The October 2025 issue of the OSUMSA News Agency Newsletter highlights a month of reflection, awareness, and action for members of the Osun State University Medical Students’ Association (OSUMSA). From commemorating Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day to addressing mental health and leadership transparency, this edition underscores the association’s commitment to advocacy, compassion, and student welfare.
Nigeria at 65 — Remembering the Voices That Shaped Freedom
The edition opened with a thought-provoking feature on Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary, spotlighting Chief Anthony Enahoro, the often-overlooked hero who boldly moved the motion for Nigeria’s self-government in 1953 at just 30 years old.
His courage serves as a timeless reminder that lasting change often begins with one voice. The reflection urged readers to appreciate Nigeria’s progress while holding on to hope for a brighter, united future.

Know Your SRC — Leadership at a Glance
To strengthen transparency and awareness within OSUMSA, the newsletter introduced the current members of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), led by Speaker Ogundepo Dorcas Ajibola, Deputy Speaker Wumi-Ademilola Adeola, and Clerk Adedosu Jesutofunmi, among others.
This section familiarised OSUMSITES with their legislative body and encouraged active participation in student governance.
Suicide Prevention Day – Changing the Narrative
In honour of World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10th, 2025), the newsletter published a moving piece titled “Suicide Is Never an Option.”
Through poetic reflections and heartfelt testimonies, the article sheds light on the silent struggles many students face, emphasising that strength is not always loud — sometimes, it’s simply choosing to stay.
The message was clear: you are not alone; help is within reach.

OSUMSA in Focus – A Call for Transparency
The issue also addressed rising concerns within the association’s current administration. Titled “Questions in the Air, Silence on the Ground,” the editorial called for clarity, accountability, and open communication regarding leadership transitions, welfare packages, and constitutional adherence.
It challenged the SRC and executives to uphold integrity and ensure that every OSUMSITE remains informed and represented.
World Heart Day – “Don’t Miss a Beat”
The newsletter featured an awareness campaign marking World Heart Day (September 29th, 2025), reminding readers that a healthy heart is vital to a healthy life.
Students joined a Heart Walk at Freedom Park, Osogbo, organised by The Fold, to promote cardiovascular health. The article encouraged regular exercise, balanced diets, and routine check-ups — simple habits that save lives.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October’s health advocacy continued with reminders about breast self-examinations and clinical screenings for early detection. OSUMSA reaffirmed its commitment to spreading awareness of preventable diseases, particularly among young women.
A Message to the 300 Level MBBS Students
The editorial also celebrated OSUMSA’s Ikanoi Giatroi (300-Level class) as they approached their First Professional MBBS Examinations. It offered words of encouragement, recognising their resilience and preparation for this crucial milestone — the transition from studying medicine to practising it.
From the Alumni – Leadership Beyond Campus
The newsletter concluded with an announcement about Comrade Olokuta Abdulbasit, Global President of the Osun State University Alumni Association, who was scheduled to speak on Rave FM regarding pressing issues like rising hostel fees and student welfare — showing continued alumni involvement in current student affairs.
In Summary
The October 2025 OSUMSA Newsletter was not just an update — it was a reflection of OSUMSA’s heartbeat: one that stands for courage, compassion, and community. From national pride to personal well-being and transparent leadership, it reminded every OSUMSITE of their shared identity — future healers with voices that matter.
