Congratulations are in order as Osun State University secures full accreditation to graduate medical students.

In just seven years since the program’s inception, the university has achieved this significant milestone.

Last week, the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) visited both the Isalẹ Osun campus and the main campus as part of the accreditation process.

Following an inspection of the facilities, laboratories, manpower, and teaching capacity, the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria granted Osun State University an approved admission quota of 150 medical students.

This means the university is now authorized to graduate 150 medical students, placing it on par with other prestigious institutions such as the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).

The news was warmly received by Ademola Adeleke, Governor of Osun State, during a visit by the MDCN accreditation team to the Government House. The Registrar of MDCN, Fatimah Kyari, represented by the Deputy Registrar, Nnaemeka Nwakanma, praised the governor for his instrumental role in making the accreditation possible.

The governor also noted that poor and unconducive working conditions have contributed to Nigeria’s brain drain, popularly referred to as the “Japa syndrome,” and vowed to do his best to reverse the trend.

This milestone paves the way for the first batch of medical students, Primus Medici, to be officially inducted as fully qualified doctors, a testament to their patience, resilience, and perseverance.

When I heard the news, I was genuinely proud to finally see our Mbbs program reach this stage, a moment we all have been anticipating that defines whether we’ll spend more months, years in medical school or not, ” said Cynthia, a graduating medical student of Osun State University.

This is a very encouraging milestone for the College of Health Sciences. It will greatly benefit subsequent sets by expanding opportunities for admission and providing a stronger structure for training future doctors.

We, as the student body, remains hopeful that continued investment in facilities, manpower, and clinical training will sustain the quality of education as the college continues to grow.
