The launch of the 2nd publication, widely known as Journal of Osun State University Medical Students(JOSUMS), was held today, the 9th of February, 2026.

Worthy of note, our scholarly and exemplary lecturers and consultants of Osun State University graced the occasion, in person of Professor Akinwusi, Professor Adekanle, Dr. Ogungbemi, Dr. Aderemi, Dr. Odeyemi. Medical students from Lagos State University, University of Ilorin, University of Ibadan, and Obafemi Awolowo University, were present for this monumental occasion.

The program kicked off with the singing of the national, state, and university anthem.

The opening speech was delivered by the outgoing editor-in-chief of the Journal Club, Oyaromade Temitope, and a goodwill message by Dr. Odeyemi.

The keynote speaker for the occasion, Dr. Ogungbemi enlightened the audience on the subject matter: Holistic Healthcare; Engaging patients, providers, and policies. He discussed that patients should be managed with an all-encompassing approach such that the underlying pathology is not only the source of concern but other related aspects such as emotional, social, and cultural factors.

He emphasized that patients should not be regarded as zombies in matters of their own health but carried along every step of the way.He also included humorous stories from his wealth of experience as a medical practitioner, driving home the importance of the topic under discourse.

After his address, Dr. Ogungbemi was presented an award as the keynote speaker of the occasion by the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Adekanle.Next, the highlight of the program.

The journal was unveiled by Dr. Odeyemi and the price of each one was slated to be four thousand and five hundred naira(#4,500) only. The invaluable lecturers and consultants in attendance bought at least four to five copies each to support the journal launch.

The ever-inspiring and supportive mother, Mama Akinwusi, purchased ten (10) copies for fifty thousand naira (#50,000).

Following this, Dr. Aderemi announced the winners of the 2025 Professor Akinwusi essay competition.The second runner-up was Blessing Motunrayo Ogunrinde, who received the prize of fifty thousand naira(#50,000).The first runner-up was Temilade Owowwe, awarded seventy-five thousand naira(#75,000).The overall winner (first place) was Adejumo Daniel Adeola, who received one hundred thousand naira (#100,000). Certificates were subsequently presented to the winners by Mama Akinwusi.

Shortly after, the new editorial board executives for the 2025/2026 tenure were sworn in. This was followed by a brief photograph session with the executives and invited guests.

The event ended with expressions of gratitude and a vote of thanks speech given by the outgoing deputy editor in chief, Obi Jewel.
